Volunteer Services at Ethos have started with a bang in 2015! On January 9, Ethos engaged a wonderful group of volunteers in some painting!  The volunteers were from The Ohio State University’s Buck-I-Serv program and were visiting Boston to complete community service project with the City Mission Society.

Summer House, the location for the service project on Friday, is a four bedroom, first floor apartment for disabled elders in need of an alternative to nursing home care. The assisted living house is an ongoing collaboration between Ethos and the Boston Housing Authority to provide supportive housing programs for elders in need in the community. Touching up the paint in the Summer House was a great way for the volunteers to connect with the elders who reside there, as well as the supportive staff that make living at Summer House possible. Providing a safe, clean, and comfortable home helps promote the dignity and self-worth of these incredible elders.

The students from the Ohio State University were a pleasure to work with. They were sensitive to the clients’ needs in the home and worked very hard to make sure that the job was done well. They were excellent at paying attention to close details and also making sure that they left the Summer House in better shape than when they arrived. The difference that a coat of paint made on the environment and feel of the Summer House was remarkable!

Ethos would especially like to thank Sean, Jacob, Chris, Andrea, and Melissa from The Ohio State University and Buck-I-Serv for their hard work and dedication on this painting project as well as the staff at the City Mission Society for coordinating this partnership!
