Some of Mayor Menino’s initiatives serving older Bostonians were the SHINE Program, still operating today, that offers free health insurance counseling, health and fitness programs and access to the Mayor’s Neighborhood Pharmacy Plan. A number of consumer protection and safety programs for the elderly were launched after an ambitious door-knocking campaign that surveyed the needs of vulnerable elders in the city.
Angela co-founded the Boston Women's Commission and served on the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women, advocating for policies that addressed gender inequality and women's rights. She was instrumental in the creation of the Boston Women's Memorial, honoring Abigail Adams, Lucy Stone, and Phillis Wheatley. Angela remains a strong advocate for women's rights and services.
