Grant to support the Ethos Boston Money Management Program
Boston, MA (September 19, 2012) – Ethos, the Jamaica Plain-based elder services non-profit, announced today that it has received a $20,000 grant from BNY Mellon through the generosity of the Herbert H. Fletcher Trust to support the organization’s Boston Money Management Program. Grant funds will focus on assisting elders with memory impairment issues such as dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, who have trouble managing their finances and are in danger of becoming homeless without immediate and direct intervention.
The Ethos Boston Money Management Program assists elderly or disabled Boston adults who have difficulty with the routine tasks of money management. Adult volunteers from the community are recruited, trained, and then matched with a “client”. Since 1991 the program has helped over 2,000 individuals to avoid the worst consequences of financial mismanagement: eviction, loss of services, financial exploitation and premature nursing home placement.
“The Ethos Boston Money Management Program provides a vital link in the chain of services that can help an elder to remain in an independent living situation,” said Dale Mitchell, executive director of Ethos. “Clients experience increased stability and quality of life as well as greater peace of mind. We are extremely grateful for this grant and for the support we are receiving from BNY Mellon and the Herbert H. Fletcher Trust.”
