Did you know that falls are the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries for older Americans. They threaten seniors’ safety and independence and generate enormous economic and personal cost.
Consider the following facts about falls:
- Every 19 minutes, an older adult dies from a fall.
- One in four Americans, aged 65+ falls each year.
- Every 11 seconds, an older adult is treated in the emergency room for a fall.
However, falling is not an inevitable result of aging. That’s why Ethos has partnered with the Boston Public Health Commission and several Community Health Centers to offer you a number of evidence-based falls prevention programs, at no cost, that can help you reduce the risk of falling.
Through its partnership, Ethos can offer two different falls prevention programs: A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls and; Tai Chi: Moving for Better Balance, all at no cost to seniors
A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls is an 8-week program designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults.
Tai Chi: Moving for Better Balance is also an 8-week program, and focuses on preventing falls and improving balance through the regular practice of Tai Chi, a Chinese martial art dating back to the 17th century, which has been tailored for older adults.
