SOUTHWEST BOSTON, MA (November 17, 2008) – This holiday season the need for meal deliveries to homebound seniors is at an all time high due to the challenging economic environment. Ethos Meals on Wheels’ staff are more confident about meeting the demand with the help of TomTom’s portable navigation devices. TomTom outfitted all Boston-based Meals on Wheels drivers with their award-winning devices in August, and is donating even more TomTom units to accommodate the increased requests for the delivery of meals for the Thanksgiving holiday this year due to the hard economic times.
“We are honored to help our neighbors at Ethos serve homebound seniors in the Boston area,” said TomTom Inc. President Jocelyn Vigreux, “Ethos’ dedication to service, especially during the holiday season, is truly exceptional, and they impact the lives of so many people with generous meal deliveries.”
Each day, Ethos staff brings nutritious meals to hundreds of elderly and disabled residents in Boston and the Greater Boston Area. This task, however, is often challenging, because Ethos drivers may be unfamiliar with the area in which they are delivering meals. Furthermore, drivers are often responsible for delivering numerous meals in varying locations in only a few hours – making effective navigation a necessity! Now however, all Ethos staff drivers are equipped with easy-to-use TomTom GO devices, allowing them to navigate to their destinations more accurately and more efficiently.
“Thanks to TomTom! Our drivers are now able to deliver meals more quickly and with greater ease,” stated Dale Mitchell, Ethos Executive Director. “Homebound elders wait in great anticipation for their hot, nutritious meal especially for Thanksgiving. For some, it may be the highlight of their day. These devices have made the process of delivering them more efficient”
TomTom’s innovative navigation devices give each Ethos driver the most up-to date maps and efficient routing, as well as the industry’s leading safety features. With TomTom’s itinerary planning feature, Ethos drivers are able to program all meal delivery stops into the devices, before even setting out on their route.
