Become a SHINE Counselor!

Ethos is looking for volunteers to become Medicare Counselors in our SHINE Program (Serving the Health Insurance Needs of Everyone)!  A SHINE counselor is someone who directly impacts the lives of others by providing important health insurance information through direct one to one counseling either over the phone or in person at a community site. Information provided will help beneficiaries save money, improve benefits, and reduce the confusion surrounding Medicare and/or Medicaid.

We are happy to announce that Ethos will host a training for new volunteer counselors at our office- 555 Amory Street in Jamaica Plain, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., July 5 – August 4. This training prepares volunteers to offer Medicare counseling and education to Boston’s residents. After completing the training, we ask for a two-year volunteer commitment of at least a few hours per week, attendance at monthly meetings and timely submission of documentation. Our volunteers provide counseling at Ethos and other locations throughout the City of Boston.

Volunteers have expressed that SHINE offers a wonderful way to connect and make a big difference in the lives of others; and offers great learning and growing opportunities for those who dedicate time to the program.

If you or someone you know might be interested in signing up for this meaningful training, or in learning more, please contact Meg Barhite at 617-522-6700 or mbarhite@ethocare.org.
